How we edit your documents depends on which package you choose. For basic proofreading, we use Track Changes for word processing, or highlight and comments for PDFs. This is because proofreading does not involve any sort of rewriting of your text, although we can suggest potential ways to rephrase via comments in both word processing and PDF formats. All suggested amendments must be accepted or rejected using the Track Changes function; we think it's important that you retain overall control of your work.
However, for the Proofreading Plus package we rewrite (rephrase) your text for you, so annotation and Track Changes would not be feasible. In this case, you will provide us with a copy of your original text (which we use as a template) and, upon completion, we send you the edited version in whichever format you prefer. You will then have one opportunity for further minor adjustments.
Yes. We do not outsource or sub-contract the editing in any way and we have a firm no-AI stance on all of our editing projects: your work remains your own, and its copyright is protected. So too is your data protection. We would never provide your information to a third party, and we would never use this information to compromise your safety in any way.
We retain your text and information for no more than 30 days after the completion of your work. We retain these in case you decide to query a particular point or you have purchased a package which includes the potential for you to make minor adjustments to the text. After 30 days, your text and information will be deleted from our systems. We will still respect your privacy and copyright during those 30 days.
We are flexible. In the UK, New Hart's Rules is preferred; whereas in the US, the Chicago Manual of Style is preferred. We are comfortable with both and if you have a preference then please let us know. Alternatively, if you have a different set of house rules or preferences, you can provide us with a list of these and we can ensure that these are respected during the edit.
If we find during the process that your preferred style does not conform to any particular standard but is still clear, we will provide you with a Style Sheet which outlines these for you. You can then use these specifications for subsequent projects.
Yes. English is our first language, but we are comfortable with using English variants (US, Australian etc.). If you require a particular variant to be used, then please let us know prior to editing.
We prefer to work at a fixed rate to prevent misunderstandings and to provide clarity. Therefore, to simplify things, we have a fixed price for every 1,000 words. Rephrasing costs more because it involves more work.
You will pay 50% of the full price once we have agreed to accept your project and this must be paid before we can start work. You will then pay the rest upon completion of the work. If you require our services while you continue to write, and therefore require a more long-term commitment, then please get in touch so we can discuss this. We want to find a pace and rhythm that works best for you.
For projects of 500 words or under, we charge a flat fee of £25.
